We’re happy to present the Mailfence Release Notes for April 2026 with several improvements and fixes.

Release Notes: New Features

  • Payments & Subscriptions
    • Automatic subscription renewal using available provision when sufficient.
  • Security
    • Email notifications (to primary and reset/notification/recovery addresses) for connections from unknown IP addresses.
    • A warning banner in message view indicating legitimacy of a message (sender domain authentication failure, fake sender, phishing).
    • Anti-phishing
      • Dedicated option to report phishing emails.
      • Optional external link confirmation prompt.
  • OpenPGP: Separate limits for private and public keys.
  • Thumbnails
    • Support for WEBP and HEIC thumbnail generation.
    • Improved filename handling during thumbnail generation.

    • Improved compliance of “From” header handling with standards.
    • Improved IMAP keyword search behavior.
    • Fixed handling of SMTP plus-addressed recipients.
    • Improved Message-ID consistency when sending to contact lists.
  • Calendar
    • Respond to iTIP COUNTER method requests with “Not Supported”.
    • Improved handling of events without organizer or attendees.
    • Improved recurring event cancellation handling.
    • Improved attendee decline and notification behavior.
    • Fixed all-day event time shift during synchronization.
    • Improved CalDAV synchronization of categories (or tags).
    • Improved public calendar access via iCal links.
    • Improved handling of child events in CalDAV.
  • Payments
    • Improved handling of canceled subscription payments.
    • Improved PayPal notification validation.
  • Authentication & Accounts
    • Improved error responses for restricted or disabled account states.
    • Fixed handling of time format settings for certain locales.
    • Improved validation for reserved account names.
    • Clearer error messaging when adding recovery addresses as sender.
  • OpenPGP
    • Improved handling of key export when no UID is present.
    • Improved passphrase handling behavior.
  • Integrations & APIs
    • Improved document handling in Zoho integration.
    • Improved reliability of attachment uploads via Mailfence API.
  • System & General
    • Updated timezone-related libraries.
    • Improved detection and auto-repair of mail folder counter inconsistencies.
    • Improved handling of attachments with identical filenames.
    • Improved push notification reliability.
    • Fixed SMS reminders being sent for disabled accounts.
    • Improved WebDAV resource handling.
    • Improved handling of search queries with special characters.

Mobile app

Regarding the Mobile app, the Mailfence Release Notes for April 2026 include the following bug fixes and improvements:

  • Messages
    • Add “Send Again” action on messages.
    • Add support for your “Display Mode” preferences.
    • Add fallback values for message flags and OutOfOffice state.
    • Add error alert when moving a message to a folder fails.
    • Add “View Source” action on messages.
    • Add setting to require confirmation before opening external links.
    • Add better indications of exceeded and almost exceeded subscription limits.
    • Opened and closed folders will now be remembered when moving a message or selecting a template.
    • Fix issue with folder sorting after folder creation.
    • Fix issue where partial iCalendar data would sometimes cause an error.
    • Improve email rendering.
    • Fix date formatting issue in event invitations.
    • Reply to meeting invitations directly in your messages.
    • Fix some issues with email rendering.
  • Calendars
    • Recurring events can now properly be deleted one by one or all instances at once.
    • View and manage your and other people’s calendar.
    • Fix issue were adding a group calendar or group member’s calendar was offered to people without a group.
  • Documents
    • Add support for Drop folder.
  • Contacts
    • Fix issue where “Call” and “Send Text” buttons were sometimes erroneously disabled.
  • Settings
    • Fix issue with the “after move” and “display mode” settings in the “Settings > Mail > General” screen.
    • Manage the settings for your account, emails, calendars, contacts, and documents.
    • Fix issue with scrolling in Away message screen.
  • Security
    • Add external link opening confirmation when clicking on a URL in a message.
    • Improvement of the security of webviews (rendering emails, composition, HTML editor for signature and away message). These changes block access to sensitive data and methods even in the case of an XSS that would allow an attacker to fully control the JavaScript of the webview.
    • Added Content Security Policy (CSP) to webviews, preventing access to remote domains, which will prevent data exfiltration in the event an attacker gets full JavaScript control of the webview.
    • Prevention of unauthorized data exchange between the webview and native context by using a secret key for those communications.
    • Message when user has a login error indicating they need to log in with primary address.
  • General
    • Android
      • Add support for monochrome and themeable app icons.
      • Reduced app startup time.
      • Improve tablet device detection.
    • The app will now remember the opened/closed folders when selecting folders to move a message or select a template.
    • Add banners in case the user’s message sending or storage quotas are exceeded or close to be exceeded.
    • German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese languages now available.
    • Miscellaneous improvements to German, English, and Dutch translations.
    • Visual/UI improvements.
    • Better error messages/warnings for disabled accounts.
    • Improvements to user interface when offline.

Extra comments regarding Mailfence Release Notes April 2026

  • Mobile App: Redesign of login system: you now need to login with your full email address.
  • Fax support was removed (April 2025).
  • Jabber/XMPP notifications were removed (November 2025).
  • Skype support was removed.
  • Russian language support was removed.
